Cupping Therapy

We have the first reference to suction cups in the oldest medical book, the papyrus of Ebers (1550 BC) written in ancient Egypt. It was later adopted by Hippocrates and Galen as the main therapeutic method but also by other therapists around the world. In Europe this method was forgotten with the advent of drugs andtechnology that applied to the health sector, but survived intact in some countries, such as China,
where Traditional Medicine is fundamental.

How do they work; With the negative pressure created through a pump (in suction cups with valve), skin suction is caused resulting in increased blood flow.

In this way:

  • They are ideal for the common cold because they benefit the lungs as they mobilize the
    fluids and eliminate harmful factors.

  • They benefit the skin because blood vessels and sweat glands are activated with
as a result of which skin respiration and hydration are improved, and toxins are eliminated.

  • Increase the temperature in the applied area due to hyperemia.

  • Move the lymph.

  • They increase the metabolism due to the intense activity of the cells from the increased
    blood flow.

  • They benefit muscles and joints because they soften muscle spasm.

  • They accelerate the healing of injured tissues because collagen production is favored
due to the increased oxygenation created by suction.

  • They balance the autonomic nervous system and offer calmness and peace to the receiver.

The suction technique is relatively painless and may produce a species circular imprint on the skin, which disappears in the following days.
